Managing your career and taking advantage of opportunities continues throughout your life.\u00a0 Make sure you understand the basics now and treat your professional development like a class or research project.<\/p>\n<p>Here are your assignments:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Weekly Homework<\/strong>: Add Job\/Career Prep time to your weekly schedule, even when you have a job or a very full plate.\u00a0 Taking three small actions a week adds up!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Extra Credit: <\/strong>Take advantage of meeting people, being curious, finding out more ~ be it a conversation in a coffee shop, a follow-up email with a presenter in class, or attending events on and off campus.\u00a0 Get involved in conversations and activities that will support your own learning beyond your assignments.\u00a0 It will pay off.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Vocabulary<\/strong>:\u00a0 Choose language that motivates you! \u201cI gotta get a job\u201d or \u201cI have no clue,\u201d is Eeyore-think.\u00a0 We can all get discouraged, but don\u2019t get stuck there!\u00a0 Practice the language of possibility: \u201cI wonder how that person got started;\u201d\u00a0 \u201cI am going to contact X organization;\u201d\u00a0 \u201cI am exploring career options \u201c (vs. being lost).\u00a0 Keeping positive is essential to moving forward in the world of work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Final Project:<\/strong> Reflect on what you learned, what the next step is and take action! <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/~career\/?Page=4yearplan.html\">The 4 Year Plan<\/a> can support you each year at UVM.<\/p>\n<p>Daunting?\u00a0 Come drop in at the Career + Experience Hub to meet with a career counselor to help develop your strategy!<\/p>\n<p><em>~Holly<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the semester gets underway, assignments, class schedules and long-term projects get your attention.\u00a0 One course you may not have realized you also have on your plate is Job\/Career Prep 101.\u00a0 It is always part of your load, even after graduation.
