Who should help manage their money?\u202fShould someone live with them, and who? Can we afford to hire an in-home caregiver?\u202fShould we seek out assisted living care, or think about an adult day option?\u202fOnce everything is finally sorted out, we can exhale.\u202fBut should we?\u202fAs our parents checked in on our wellbeing as children, once our elders are set and settled, we must continue to check in on them, too, with great care and concern for their wellbeing.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On this World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, we must be vigilant and aware of the risk factors and signs of elder abuse. We must\u00a0serve as\u00a0supportive connections\u00a0to older adults in our communities to prevent\u00a0their\u00a0social isolation\u2014one of the main elder abuse risk factors (ncea.acl.gov). The guide walks through how to recognize abuse and exploitation,\u00a0help options outside of\u00a0government, as well as how to report elder abuse or exploitation to government for response.\u202fThis resource outlines free services provided by an array of organizations and state agencies, including:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Elder abuse hotlines and helplines&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Case managers and social workers&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Domestic &amp; sexual violence organizations&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Legal services; and&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other community-based organizations and professionals&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can help prevent elder abuse and exploitation.\u202fI encourage you to share and save a copy of this guide and keep it among your most referenced resources.
