In order to reach my downed log in the middle of the woods behind Simpson, you must first walk through some tall brambly grass. After descending through the grass you will come across a trail which you will follow for a few steps until you reach a clearing. In the clearing there is a downed tree with a bench type structure built on its side. There is some trash and beer cans yet the place does feel quite natural. It feels like an escape from the rest of campus. However, you are still able to hear the sounds of cars and busses as well as soccer players yelling on the field. Unlike many places on campus there is no concrete under your feet, not even grass, just soft earth covered by leaves. My place in the woods is peaceful, until a goal is scored or a car engine roars.
Field Notes: Birds Chirping, two chipmunks observed, bus sounds
