Phenology of Shelburne Farms

Change

Back at Shelburne farms, almost all the leaves have been dropped and cleared away, save for some Norway maple still clinging to their wilted leaves. Most of the cattle have been moved to a barnyard for safe keeping, leaving the fields for what sheep remain and deer. Many, many deer seem to have taken refuge at Shelburne farms. As well as squirrels and chipmunks.

( I slipped on the ice later on and laughed to myself my entire walk)

This is my first “Stick season” ever, and I absolutely love it. Being able to see the interworking of branches, seeing the beauty of a sleepy winter is just astonishing. I can’t wait to learn more about the seasons, and how everything changes. My favorite part of my phenology place is how you can choose how intense you’d like your walk to be. You can choose to hike up or hike down to the lake, you can see farm animals and wild life. If you keep yours eyes peeled you can see so many signs of wildlife. You can wander around for hours if you’d like, get lost but still find your way out with how many maps there are on the property. Overall just a beautiful place with a beautiful view.
