My First Visit to My Phenology Spot!

The spot I chose for the Phenology Project was Rock Point. The site itself is gorgeous, and its distance from my dorm motivates me to get outside into nature more often. Rock Point is such a unique location, and the walk there is almost as rewarding as the view itself, which is why I chose this spot. You can visit this specific area by walking along the waterfront bike path, until you reach Rock Point Trail Loop. From there, you follow the loop until you have reached the lookout point with the small fence.

October 16th, 2022. Start of the sunset at Rock Point at approximately 5:50 PM.

The vegetation in this area was mixed. There were a few Northern White Cedars, and a plethora of Buckthorn. The ground coverage was made up of wildflowers, long grasses, dirt, and large rocks. The understory seemed to be more abundant than the overstory, with a large amount of shrubbery . The walk to get to the lookout point was through a very forested area. There were Red Maples, Sugar Maples, Northern Red oaks, and some coniferous trees.

My first visit official visit was a success. It was a gorgeous Fall day and 58 ° F, the perfect weather for some leaf peeping. Below is a picture of my spot on Google Maps. I can’t wait to visit my spot every week and observe the seasonal changes in the surrounding nature.
