Hi everyone! Welcome to my blog! Over the next few months I am going to be spending a lot of time at my phenology spot, and I will be posting my observations and information I have learned in here.
My phenology place is in the Intervale and right beside the Winooski River. It is fairly easy to get to. If you find your way to North Prospect Street, then you just have to follow the road north (the road will become Intervale Road) until you reach the Intervale Center. From there, you just want to head towards the Winooski River where Calkins Trial begins. After walking along the trail for a little more than half a mile, you will come across my phenology spot. The area is centered around a few silver maples, which are growing in a variety of directions. Most noticeably, a few are growing towards the water almost horizontally, and the tree in the center is dead, with a large portion of it having broken off.
I did not choose this area as my phenology spot for any specific reason. I had not yet visited the Intervale since coming to campus, and thought that this project would be a great excuse to get more familiar with the area. During my walk along Calkins trail and throughout the Intervale I marked several places of interest, but none kept my attention as well as this one and so I chose it as my phenology spot.

I also took the time to create an (admittedly mediocre) bird’s-eye view map of my phenology spot. It does not do the area justice, and definitely does not highlight the strange directions that all of the trees are growing, but it does provide a little insight on the positioning of the trees in the area.
