I selected a location in Centennial Woods. I originally noticed this spot when I was doing the last part of the Self Guided Exploration of Centennial Woods. When this assignment was introduced in class, my first thought was that this place that I had noticed would make a perfect place to study.
It is not that far into the woods, at the first fork you go right and then at the second you go to the left, but it is still a nice walk to take, especially today when the weather was quite nice.
One of the major reasons I liked this spots was its close proximity to the stream and had a small cleared area that I can sit in and make observations of my surroundings. I find it very relaxing to listen to the stream flow and to watch the way that the sun filters through the leaves. It is like a nice and peaceful escape from campus.
In my location there are multiple small eastern hemlock trees and some buckthorn along. A majority of the canopy trees are eastern hemlock trees. Due to the dominant species of tree in this general area being eastern hemlocks, I am guessing that the soil must be a moist loamy soil. Another dominant species is the fern, like the one pictured above, near the base of some of the bigger canopy trees and covering the slope down to the stream.

My phenology location is located at 44°28’39.0″N 73°11’12.1″W
