{"id":93,"date":"2013-07-09T16:26:54","date_gmt":"2013-07-09T20:26:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aplarson\/?p=93"},"modified":"2013-07-09T16:26:54","modified_gmt":"2013-07-09T20:26:54","slug":"bmps-help-roads-weather-the-storms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aplarson\/2013\/07\/09\/bmps-help-roads-weather-the-storms\/","title":{"rendered":"BMPs help roads weather the storms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Installations of BMPs began in late October 2012 on Randell and Kew Vasseur roads in Fayston and continue this year on road sites in Warren, Waitsfield and Duxbury.\u00a0 Segments of ditch on Randell and Kew Vasseur roads were lined with stone to minimize erosion of these steep ditches.\u00a0 Preliminary assessments indicate the treatments are highly effective in reducing erosion.\u00a0 Following intense rain storms in late May 2013, the untreated site on Randell road showed evidence of considerable sediment accumulation in the silt fences we are using to monitor erosion.\u00a0 The paired site that had been lined with rock produced very little sediment.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_94\" style=\"width: 245px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aplarson\/files\/2013\/07\/Randell-control-May2013.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-94\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-94\" alt=\"Silt fence positioned at the end of the untreated road segment on Randell road in Fayston, photographed following an intense rain storm in late May 2013.
