Welcome to my phenology blog!

The place I chose to study is a clearing within Centennial Woods.  I decided to blog about this place because it’s a beautiful spot with such easy access from campus!

The Google Maps satellite view of my phenology spot.

You can get there by entering Centennial Woods from the trail entrance near the police station on Catamount Drive.  Follow the trail until you reach this sign:

…Then follow the trail where the sign says #3 is.  You should eventually come upon a clearing with another trail sign, but you won’t need to follow anything because you’re there!  The center of my plot is a yellow birch tree that I thought was cool, so if you see that, you’ll know you’re in the right place 🙂

Other than the yellow birch pictured above, the paper birch, Eastern white pine, Eastern hemlock, red maple, and Northern red oak tree species are found in this area. There are also smaller bushes and ferns and plenty of colorful leaves covering the ground due to it being the fall.
