What new sounds have appeared? What do they tell us about ourselves and <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/2014\/08\/10\/humming-the-new-earth\/\">industrial<\/a>,\u00a0political, and ecological change? What aesthetic, ethical, and ecological\u00a0questions do these changes raise? What forms of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Sonic-Warfare-Ecology-Technologies-Abstraction\/dp\/0262517957\">sonic warfare<\/a> are going on around you? How does sound contribute to (or take away from) peace, coexistence, and flourishing?<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a way in which <a href=\"http:\/\/wfae.net\/library\/articles\/wrightson_intro.pdf\">acoustic ecology<\/a>&#8216;s emphasis on sound as its own phonomenon\u00a0risks\u00a0disembedding the soundscape from the lifescape (and landscape and technoscape) that envelops it, turning sounds into an object of attention, absorption, and delight, but without necessarily telling us much about what they mean. But at its best the point is the very opposite: it&#8217;s to re-embed\u00a0ourselves within that lifescape and landscape through the use of our auditory senses.<\/p>\n<p>Go out and listen to the world around you today. Pay a little attention\u00a0to the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Soundscape_ecology\">biophony, geophony, and anthropophony<\/a> of the world.
