{"id":7858,"date":"2014-09-22T11:02:25","date_gmt":"2014-09-22T16:02:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/?p=7858"},"modified":"2021-06-10T08:56:51","modified_gmt":"2021-06-10T13:56:51","slug":"climate-movement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/2014\/09\/22\/climate-movement\/","title":{"rendered":"Climate movement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I write, Bill McKibben is being interviewed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/tech\/elements\/peoples-climate-march-interview-bill-mckibben\">left<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/meet-bill-mckibben-man-behind-massive-peoples-climate-march-rally-n207631\">right<\/a>, Tom Ashbrook is <a href=\"http:\/\/onpoint.wbur.org\/2014\/09\/22\/naomi-klein-on-capitalism-vs-the-climate\">interviewing Naomi Klein<\/a>\u00a0and pushing her to outline a vision that <em>isn&#8217;t<\/em> capitalism-as-we-know-it, <em>Time<\/em> magazine is saying this could be the <a href=\"http:\/\/time.com\/3414633\/peoples-climate-march\/\">largest march of its kind<\/a> &#8212; which raises the question of what kind it is &#8212; and the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/People's_Climate_March\">People&#8217;s Climate March<\/a> is propelling reactions by politicians, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/09\/22\/us\/heirs-to-an-oil-fortune-join-the-divestment-drive.html\">oil tycoon heirs<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sustainable-business\/2014\/sep\/22\/divestment-campiagn-fossil-fuels-dirty-energy-stanford\">churches and academic organizations<\/a>, and others in advance of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/climatechange\/climate-summit-2014\/\">UN Climate Summit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The questions now are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is this movement (of movements) that is taking shape, and how will it grow?\u00a0Is it the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.climate-justice-now.org\/\">Climate Justice<\/a> movement, or\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.democracynow.org\/2014\/9\/19\/a_peoples_climate_movement_indigenous_labor\">People&#8217;s Climate movement<\/a>, or something else?
