{"id":7782,"date":"2014-09-11T12:08:08","date_gmt":"2014-09-11T17:08:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/?p=7782"},"modified":"2014-09-11T12:10:07","modified_gmt":"2014-09-11T17:10:07","slug":"offshore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/2014\/09\/11\/offshore\/","title":{"rendered":"Offshore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been enjoying <a href=\"http:\/\/skies.mtroyal.ca\/\">Under Western Skies 3: Environments, Technologies, Communities<\/a>, which has featured a wonderful array of critical environmental theorists and practitioners &#8212; including among its keynotes Justice Thomas Berger (whose 1978-8 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/cgi-bin\/MT4\/mt-search.cgi?search=berger+inquiry&amp;IncludeBlogs=777&amp;limit=20\">Mackenzie Valley Pipeline Inquiry Report<\/a>\u00a0was a classic of environmental legal innovation), the indigenous activist group <a href=\"http:\/\/www.idlenomore.ca\/\">Idle No More<\/a>, historian and <a href=\"http:\/\/centerwest.org\/\">Center of\u00a0the American West<\/a> director Patty Limerick, religion and environmental scholar Bron Taylor, anthropologist Tim Ingold (speaking in a few moments), Winona LaDuke (tomorrow), and others.<\/p>\n<p>But one of the unexpected revelations for me has been Brenda Longfellow&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/offshore-interactive.com\/\">Offshore<\/a>, an interactive web documentary that offers powerful depictions of the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon Disaster in a stunning visual format.<\/p>\n<p>The film&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/offshore-interactive.com\/\">home page is here<\/a>.\u00a0I recommend setting aside some time to explore its many features.
