{"id":7261,"date":"2014-02-01T15:50:28","date_gmt":"2014-02-01T20:50:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/?p=7261"},"modified":"2014-02-01T15:50:28","modified_gmt":"2014-02-01T20:50:28","slug":"geoscene","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/2014\/02\/01\/geoscene\/","title":{"rendered":"Geoscene"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/files\/2014\/02\/GeoNow_Front-Cover_web-713x1024.png\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-7262\" alt=\"GeoNow_Front-Cover_web-713x1024\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/files\/2014\/02\/GeoNow_Front-Cover_web-713x1024.png?resize=100%2C154\" width=\"100\" height=\"154\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Over <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv-acene\/2014\/02\/01\/the-geologic-now-theorizing-its-sociable-life\/\">at A(S)CENE<\/a>, we are starting to read Nigel Clark&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Inhuman-Nature-Sociable-Published-association\/dp\/0761957243\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1391259432&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=inhuman+nature\">Inhuman Nature: Sociable Life on a Dynamic Planet<\/a>\u00a0as well as the Punctum Books open-access collection\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/geologicnow.com\/index.php\">Making the Geological Now: Responses to Material Conditions of Contemporary Life<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Clark&#8217;s book has attracted some very intrigued &#8212; and a few rather ecstatic &#8212; reviews from geographers and social theorists, including a book review symposium in <a href=\"http:\/\/phg.sagepub.com\/content\/36\/5\/677.short\">Progress in Human Geography<\/a>. \u00a0Back cover <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uk.sagepub.com\/books\/Book206431#tabview=reviews\">blurbers<\/a> Barry Smart, Myra Hird, and Adrian Franklin call it &#8220;magnificent&#8221; and &#8220;compelling&#8221; (Smart), a &#8220;watershed for social theory&#8221; (Hird), and &#8220;possibly one of the most important books you are ever likely to read, <!--more-->particularly if you have been duped into thinking \u2018nature\u2019 and \u2018planet earth\u2019 are merely benevolent forces at the mercy of an insane, disordered humanity&#8221; (Franklin).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">&#8220;This book does not simply \u2018take nature into account\u2019: fires, floods, volcanoes, climate change, and hurricanes take centre-stage in this thorough re-writing of the organic and inorganic.<i>\u00a0Inhuman Nature<\/i>\u00a0asks the most important questions of our time, and is a must-read for anyone who takes nature and our future on this planet seriously.&#8221; (Hird)<\/p>\n<p>Alright, then.
