{"id":6546,"date":"2013-03-11T10:37:12","date_gmt":"2013-03-11T15:37:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/?p=6546"},"modified":"2013-03-18T15:15:32","modified_gmt":"2013-03-18T20:15:32","slug":"sighting-oil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/2013\/03\/11\/sighting-oil\/","title":{"rendered":"Sighting Oil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.csj.ualberta.ca\/imaginations\/?p=3664\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"3.2Cover\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.csj.ualberta.ca\/imaginations\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/3.2Cover-791x1024.jpg?resize=207%2C267\" width=\"207\" height=\"267\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While it&#8217;s been out for several months now, the current issue of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csj.ualberta.ca\/imaginations\/\">Imaginations: Journal of Cross-Cultural Image Studies<\/a>, a special issue on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csj.ualberta.ca\/imaginations\/?p=3869\">Sighting Oil<\/a>, deserves more press than it&#8217;s gotten.<\/p>\n<p>The journal is housed at the University of Alberta, which makes it particularly well situated to critically observe the development of Alberta&#8217;s infamous Tar Sands. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csj.ualberta.ca\/imaginations\/?p=3664\">The issue<\/a> features several critical as well as visual essays on oil (including one by Allan Stoekl on peak oil), tar sands and pipeline politics, visual representation, &#8220;dark ecology,&#8221; BP and its Gulf Oil Spill, and much else.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(And here&#8217;s one thing we&#8217;ve been doing about it: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.social-ecology.org\/2013\/03\/vermont-towns-say-no-to-tar-sands-oil\/\">Vermont towns say no to Tar Sands oil<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While it&#8217;s been out for several months now, the current issue of Imaginations: Journal of Cross-Cultural Image Studies, a special issue on Sighting Oil, deserves more press than it&#8217;s gotten.
