{"id":5511,"date":"2011-12-15T10:46:59","date_gmt":"2011-12-15T15:46:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/?p=5511"},"modified":"2011-12-15T10:46:59","modified_gmt":"2011-12-15T15:46:59","slug":"shadow-blog-in-the-shadows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/2011\/12\/15\/shadow-blog-in-the-shadows\/","title":{"rendered":"Shadow Blog in the shadows&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Readers may have noticed that in addition to a general hiatus on this blog, the Immanence <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/reader\/shared\/11148938922555735116\">Shadow Blog<\/a> (scroll down on the right) also stopped updating several weeks ago. This is because Google Reader, in its recent <a href=\"http:\/\/googlereader.blogspot.com\/2011\/10\/new-in-reader-fresh-design-and-google.html\">redesign,<\/a> eliminated its Shared Items feeds, which means that I can no longer click &#8220;Share&#8221; on items in my feed reader and have these automatically show up in the Shadow Blog.<\/p>\n<p>Responses to the elimination of this social networking feature on Google Reader seem to have been overwhelmingly negative (see <a href=\"http:\/\/googlesystem.blogspot.com\/2011\/10\/google-readers-new-interface.html\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.to\/support\/forum\/p\/reader\/thread?tid=198bd04844c4bccb&amp;hl=en\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/amccrim.com\/google-reader-part-3-anti-social-update\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/noscope.com\/journal\/2011\/11\/the-assassination-of-google-reader-by-the-coward-google\">here,<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/binarybonsai.com\/2011\/11\/02\/the-google-reader-downgrade\/\">here<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/mashable.com\/2011\/10\/31\/google-reader-plus\/\">here<\/a>). But Google doesn&#8217;t seem to have shown any interest in re-establishing any of it. Instead, they have put their energy into developing and refining <a href=\"http:\/\/plus.google.com\/\">Google+<\/a>, hoping that users will follow them into that uncharted domain. I haven&#8217;t done that, and am looking for alternatives.
