{"id":2287,"date":"2011-01-13T13:11:10","date_gmt":"2011-01-13T18:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/?p=2287"},"modified":"2011-02-11T22:23:34","modified_gmt":"2011-02-12T03:23:34","slug":"34-warm-years-counting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/2011\/01\/13\/34-warm-years-counting\/","title":{"rendered":"34 warm years &amp; counting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/arstechnica.com\/science\/news\/2011\/01\/noaa-2010-goes-down-as-a-tie-for-warmest-year-on-record.ars\">results are in<\/a> and both <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncdc.noaa.gov\/sotc\/global\/\">NOAA<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/home\/hqnews\/2011\/jan\/HQ_11-014_Warmest_Year.html\">NASA<\/a> agree that 2010 is statistically tied (with 2005) for the warmest year on record, globally.<\/p>\n<p>Nine of the last ten years are among the ten warmest years on record. (The exception was 2008. The records go back to 1880.) And the last time we had a year in which the global average temperature was BELOW the twentieth-century average was 1976. That&#8217;s 34 warm years in a row. And counting.<\/p>\n<p>(And in case you&#8217;re prone to making some comment about the snow, we&#8217;re talking global climate, not local weather.
