{"id":10154,"date":"2019-05-09T17:55:29","date_gmt":"2019-05-09T22:55:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/?p=10154"},"modified":"2021-06-14T07:23:28","modified_gmt":"2021-06-14T12:23:28","slug":"announcing-mediaenvironment-journal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv\/2019\/05\/09\/announcing-mediaenvironment-journal\/","title":{"rendered":"Announcing Media+Environment Journal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>This announcement is long past due&#8230; It&#8217;s for the new, open access, peer-reviewed <a href=\"https:\/\/mediaenviron.org\/about\/editorial-board\/\">international<\/a> journal that I am co-editing with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.filmandmedia.ucsb.edu\/person\/alenda-y-chang\/\">Alenda Chang<\/a> and <\/em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.filmandmedia.ucsb.edu\/person\/janet-walker\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Janet Walker<\/em><\/a><em>, through the University of California Press. It includes a call for submissions for two special issue &#8220;streams&#8221;: &#8220;Disaster Media&#8221; and &#8220;Mediating Art &amp; Science.&#8221;  <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Media+Environment<\/em><\/strong> is an open access, online, peer-reviewed journal of transnational and interdisciplinary ecomedia research. The journal seeks to foster dialogue within a fast-growing global community of researchers and creators working to understand and address the myriad ways that media and environments affect, inhabit, and constitute one another. Founded on the premise that media and environment is a crucial conjunction for our time, the journal encourages both traditional and multimodal forms of scholarship. Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/mediaenviron.org\/about\/\">here<\/a>.&nbsp;<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The first, inaugural issue is an invitational one on the &#8220;States Of Media+Environment.&#8221; It will stage a broad, transdisciplinary dialogue among key actors and thinkers in the media-environment nexus.  It will be out this summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Calls for submissions are out for the next two thematic &#8220;streams&#8221;: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Disaster Media <\/strong><br \/>A thematic stream for the journal\u00a0<em>Media+Environment<\/em>; seeking to explore media, space, and the geopolitical quandaries of visualizing and mobilizing disaster relief; edited by Janet Walker\u00a0and\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/globalmedia.mit.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lisa Parks<\/a>. This \u201cDisaster Media\u201d stream is slated for publication in the first volume of\u00a0<em>Media+Environment.<\/em> Read the full call <a href=\"https:\/\/mediaenviron.org\/announcement\">here<\/a>.<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mediating Art and Science<\/strong><br \/>A thematic stream for the journal&nbsp;<em>Media+Environment<\/em>, which revisits the intellectual and communicative barriers once posited between the \u201ctwo cultures\u201d of the sciences and the humanities via the new synchronies presented by environmentally oriented arts and media; edited by Alenda Chang and Adrian Ivakhiv.
