As of the summer of 2024, I hold the J. S. Woodsworth Chair in the Humanities at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. For about two decades before that, I was a Professor of Environmental Thought and Culture at the University of Vermont, where I taught, researched, and wrote about topics found at the intersections of culture, ecology, identity, media, philosophy, religion, and the arts, and where I coordinated the <a href=\"https:\/\/ecoculturelab.net\/\">EcoCultureLab<\/a>. I continue my U. of Vermont affiliation in an emeritus capacity.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m the author of books about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sup.org\/books\/media-studies\/new-lives-images\" rel=\"nofollow ugc noopener\">digital media<\/a> (and what they\u2019re doing to our imaginative capacities), the <a href=\"https:\/\/punctumbooks.com\/titles\/shadowing-the-anthropocene-eco-realism-for-turbulent-times\/\" rel=\"nofollow ugc noopener\">Anthropocene<\/a> (and how we make sense of it, philosophically and emotionally), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wlupress.wlu.ca\/Books\/E\/Ecologies-of-the-Moving-Image\" rel=\"nofollow ugc noopener\">moving images<\/a> (and how they\u2019ve changed our world materially, socially, and perceptually), <a href=\"https:\/\/iupress.org\/9780253338990\/claiming-sacred-ground\/\" rel=\"nofollow ugc noopener\">conflicts over landscapes<\/a> (that some people consider sacred and others don\u2019t), and well over a hundred scholarly articles and book chapters, popular publications, and encyclopedia articles.
