{"id":742,"date":"2015-02-05T10:35:34","date_gmt":"2015-02-05T14:35:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv-ukrtaz\/?p=742"},"modified":"2022-03-11T17:53:46","modified_gmt":"2022-03-11T21:53:46","slug":"dnr-lnr-play-anti-semitic-card","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv-ukrtaz\/2015\/02\/05\/dnr-lnr-play-anti-semitic-card\/","title":{"rendered":"DNR &amp; LNR play anti-Semitic card"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"_5pbx userContent\">\n<p>Following the collapse of the Minsk ceasefire talks, the leaders of the separatist Donetsk and Luhansk &#8220;people&#8217;s republics&#8221; held a joint press conference which ended in a bizarre anti-Semitic jibe against current Ukrainian leaders.<\/p>\n<p>The entire press conference is worth watching, but the part in question begins at around 13&#8217;20&#8221;. It&#8217;s clear to me that they are\u00a0aiming it at President Poroshenko, Prime Minister Yatseniuk, Speaker of Parliament Volodymyr Groysman (those are the three most powerful politicians in Ukraine today), and probably Dnipropetrovsk governor (and pro-Kyiv oligarch) Ihor Kolomoisky, all of whom are\u00a0known\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/forward.com\/articles\/198758\/ukraine-presidential-frontrunner-petro-poroshenko\/?p=all\">or thought<\/a>\u00a0to have Jewish roots and who, collectively, show how irrelevant ethnicity has become in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>That these two guys see themselves as\u00a0fighting for their &#8220;cossack&#8221; fiefdom (supported by a resurgent Great Russia) does not bode well for the future of the region.<\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/youtu.be\/knMWlB4c_cY<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following the collapse of the Minsk ceasefire talks, the leaders of the separatist Donetsk and Luhansk &#8220;people&#8217;s republics&#8221; held a joint press conference which ended in a bizarre anti-Semitic jibe against current Ukrainian leaders.
