{"id":1632,"date":"2023-05-12T05:46:47","date_gmt":"2023-05-12T09:46:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv-ukrtaz\/?p=1632"},"modified":"2023-05-12T05:48:41","modified_gmt":"2023-05-12T09:48:41","slug":"forensic-architecture-mariupol-bombing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/aivakhiv-ukrtaz\/2023\/05\/12\/forensic-architecture-mariupol-bombing\/","title":{"rendered":"Forensic Architecture: Mariupol bombing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forensic-architecture.org\/\">Forensic Architecture<\/a> &#8212; which has done tremendous investigative &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/forensic-architecture.org\/programme\/exhibitions\/counter-investigations\">counter-forensics<\/a>&#8221; work in Palestine\/Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, Myanmar, Colombia, Brazil&#8217;s Yanomamo territory, and Louisiana&#8217;s &#8220;Death Alley,&#8221; among other zones of war and human rights violation &#8212; has been working with the <a href=\"https:\/\/spatialtech.info\/\">Center for Spatial Technologies<\/a> on the March 2022 bombing of Mariupol&#8217;s Drama Theatre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This 20-minute video presents the first part of their investigation. Their investigation of the Russian <a href=\"https:\/\/forensic-architecture.org\/investigation\/russian-strike-on-kyiv-tv-tower\">bombing of Kyiv&#8217;s Babyn Yar<\/a> is also excellent, and viewable from their website. (See co-founder <a href=\"https:\/\/forensic-architecture.org\/programme\/publications\">Eyal Weizman&#8217;s writings<\/a>, including his co-authored volume on <em>Investigative Aesthetics<\/em>, and the &#8220;Methodology&#8221; section of their extensively documented <a href=\"https:\/\/forensic-architecture.org\/\">web site<\/a> for further information on their approach.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Before it was destroyed by a Russian airstrike, the Mariupol Theater was a key refuge in the besieged city, a unique site of solidarity and resistance.
