While the war continues, it may seem premature to discuss the reconstruction of Ukraine, but that is precisely what several of Ukraine’s leading cultural institutions feel is needed. It will be the topic of an online symposium entitled “The Reconstruction of Ukraine: Ruination \/ Representation \/ Solidarity. A Symposium of Ideas and Strategies<\/a>,” to take place this week on September 9 through 11:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over 40 expert Ukrainian and international speakers \u2013 architects, artists, historians, economists, poets and others \u2013 will gather this September to discuss Ukraine\u2019s past, present and future in light of Russia\u2019s ongoing invasion. The overall theme of the conversation will be\u00a0reconstruction:<\/strong>\u00a0broadly-conceived to refer to the rebuilding of architecture and infrastructure, but also of institutions, social bonds, individual and collective bodies and minds. <\/p>

The symposium is organized by a network of institutions, including the \u0426\u0435\u043d\u0442\u0440 \u043c\u0456\u0441\u044c\u043a\u043e\u0457 \u0456\u0441\u0442\u043e\u0440\u0456\u0457 \/ Center for Urban History<\/a>, Urban Forms Center<\/a>, Kyiv Biennial \/ VCRC<\/a>, ReStart Ukraine<\/a>, UCL<\/a>, and Yale University. <\/p>

The symposium will take place virtually over the course of three days from September 9\u221211. The round table discussions held over each of the three days will range from housing, preservation, masterplanning, the political and economic challenges of reconstruction, the impact of gendered and sexual violence, remediation of the country\u2019s psychological trauma, among many other subjects.\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
