Its latest program, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wnycstudios.org\/podcasts\/otm\/episodes\/on-the-media-russias-war\">Russia&#8217;s War<\/a>,&#8221; focuses entirely on Russia and the war in Ukraine, and it is excellent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All three segments &#8212; on the crackdown on Russian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnycstudios.org\/podcasts\/otm\/segments\/covering-russia-on-the-media\">independent media<\/a>, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnycstudios.org\/podcasts\/otm\/segments\/russian-state-tvs-false-narratives-on-the-media\">info ops<\/a>&#8221; (information warfare), and one person&#8217;s (journalist Anastasiia Carrier&#8217;s) experience <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnycstudios.org\/podcasts\/otm\/segments\/escaping-kremlins-propaganda-machine1-on-the-media\">unlearning Kremlin narratives<\/a> &#8212; are well worth listening to. The latter sounds a lot like the kinds of things people go through when they leave &#8220;cults&#8221; (religious or political), so there are even lessons here for how to deal with family members you may have lost to QAnon, MAGAworld, and their cousins in other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnycstudios.org\/podcasts\/otm\/episodes\/on-the-media-russias-war\">The full 52-minute podcast can be heard here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, they have just added an additional 15-minute segment on Ukrainian media called &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnycstudios.org\/podcasts\/otm\/segments\/big-tech-hurting-ukrainian-media-on-the-media\">Big Tech vs. Ukraine&#8217;s Local Media<\/a>,&#8221; which examines how Facebook\/Meta and Google\/Alphabet (including YouTube) have, contrary to popular belief, been <em>supporting<\/em> Russian state media at the expense of independent Ukrainian media. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(You can support independent Ukrainian media by following, and donating to, <a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/\"><em>Kyiv Independent<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"\/\"><em>Ukrainska Pravda<\/em><\/a>, and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.hromadske.ua\/\">Hromadske<\/a><\/em>, among other sources.)   <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WNYC&#8217;s On the Media stands out among media-analysis podcasts.
