I immediately noticed differences in the ecology and phenology in the area compared to my phenology spot in Vermont. The first think I noticed was the lack of deciduous trees in the area. Due to the time of the year, there were no leaves on the trees, so the forest was very brown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/agentry\/files\/2023\/11\/3C1BCACE-2B1A-4D43-AC37-1F807E04C3D7_1_105_c.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/agentry\/files\/2023\/11\/3C1BCACE-2B1A-4D43-AC37-1F807E04C3D7_1_105_c.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/agentry\/files\/2023\/11\/3C1BCACE-2B1A-4D43-AC37-1F807E04C3D7_1_105_c-225x300.jpeg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a large variation in the tree species in Algonkian, including Silver Maple, Tulip Poplar, Gray Alder,  Box Elder, and Bitternut Hickory. The trees were of similar height, which could have been caused by the area being planted all at once.
