Bio-Blitz 2025

The areas in Burlington that I visited were City Hall Park, right off of church street, and the Waterfront Park by the Rubenstein Ecosystem Science Laboratory. When it comes to using iNaturalist, I found it very easy, as I have used it many times throughout the semester for phenology assignments. I documented 10 different species during my exploration of Burlington. Some of the species I was able to identify were Daffodils, Violets, Pansies, Hydrangeas, and Rhododendrons, to name a few. When looking at the City Nature Challenge project on iNaturalist, there were a couple of really interesting things. One thing that really stuck out was the sheer number of observations and participants. I was pleasantly surprised to see how many people are eager to make contributions to this. It was also just really interesting to see all the cool animals that people were able to find, as I wasn’t able to find any. One observation that I particularly enjoyed was a Great Blue Heron sighting (my favorite bird) in San Francisco. It was also really cool to see how the different cities’ springs are going in comparison to Burlington and how far into bloom some plants are compared to Burlington.
