Phenology Site – Centennial Woods Beyond The Creek

October 14, 2024

My phonology spot is in Centennial Woods on campus. You follow the usual trail until you find a creek. Once you find the creek you cross and continue on the trail until you reach the fork in the trail. From there you to the right and shortly after you will find a tree that has fallen in between two others, and that is my phenology site. I chose it because of the unique way the tree fell, which you can see in the picture here:

The area has many trees and some smaller saplings, shrubs, and ferns around the understory. The ground is covered in pines and fallen leaves now that the seasons are starting to change. Some of the trees were hard to identify, as it was quite rainy during this visit so I’ll have to return to confirm the identities of some.

Common Species Identified:

Sugar Maples – https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/247392166

Ferns – https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/247392161

Yellow Birch (Unsure) – https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/247392149

Here are some of the other trees that were hard to identify because of the rain which I will revisit:
