Taking in My Surroundings

This weekend (10/31) I went to my spot and just stood for about 15 minutes looking at the nature around me and listening. It was raining while I was there so most of the noise I heard was the sound of rain. There were other noises, but the rain was a big distraction and it was hard to make out what the other noises were. I heard some birds, but I am not sure what kind of birds they were. Hopefully next time I go it won’t be raining and I will be able to figure out what kind of birds I’m hearing, and I’ll update! I thought it was interesting that the bird noises were coming from around me on the same level, rather than above me. This is because birds don’t fly around quite as much when it rains, so they were probably on the ground. Otherwise, I heard some other animals scurrying around and also the stream flowing! It was very peaceful to just focus on the noise, smell the rain, and feel the mud under my feet for a little while!

Some major differences I noticed since the last time I visited was that the stream was much higher (because of the rain) and the trees were more bare. There are still some leaves on the trees, but there were a lot on the ground. Also, this isn’t technically my spot, it is at the entrance to get to my spot, but I noticed some of the trees were cut down. 🙁 I’m not sure why and I’m curious because Centennial Woods is a natural area and I don’t see a reason to cut down any of the trees, but maybe there is a reason.
