Last Call for Applications to the Vermont Farm Women’s Fund

Deadline: February 7, 2013

The Vermont Farm Women’s Fund (VFWF) is accepting proposals for its next round of grants to help women farmers improve their businesses or participate in agricultural policy development. The deadline to apply for the next round of awards is 11:59 pm on Feb. 7.

VFWF provides several types of grants. Farm Business Development Fund awards provide financial support for education, travel and technical assistance  to help recipients improve some aspect of their business. Leadership Development Fund awards help individuals develop leadership skills and access opportunities to participate in agricultural policy development. These awards are capped at $1000. Use VFWF’s online form to apply.

VFWF also offers Scholarship Initiative awards of up to $150 to enable farm women to attend agricultural and business management classes, conferences, and other training.  The Scholarship Initiative is designed to provide more flexibility in helping women farmers take advantage of  the many educational conferences, workshops and courses available in the region. The application process is streamlined and applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. Generally, decisions will be made within 10 days.

Priority for all awards is given to Vermont women who own or work on a farm and who earn a majority of their income from agriculture-related activities. A panel of Vermont farm women make award decisions.

VFWF was established by Vermont author and photographer Peter Miller, who donates a percentage of his Vermont Farm Women book sales to the fund. Additional funding comes from the John Merck Fund, the Vermont Community Foundation, Key Bank Foundation, Vermont Country Store, National Life of Vermont, Washington Electric Cooperative, TD Charitable Foundation, Northfield Savings Bank, and many individual donors, including farm women. UVM Extension through the Women’s Agricultural Network provide in-kind support.
