About

The University of Vermont, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Project invites you to attend “Better Learning by Design.” This three-day conference gathers nationally known experts and offers the opportunity to become knowledgeable in the theory and application of UDL principles.

As defined by The Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008, UDL is “a scientifically valid framework for guiding educational practice that provides for flexibility in the ways:

  • Information is presented
  • Students respond or demonstrate knowledge and skills, and
  • Students are engaged in the content

UDL practices reduce the barriers in instruction, provide appropriate accommodations, supports, and challenges, and maintain high achievement expectations for all students, including students with disabilities and students who are limited English proficient. (Section 103(24).”

Conference Keynote Sessions are designed to:

  • Deepen your understanding of the neuroscience of learning
  • Expand your pedagogical repertoire to include UDL principles and practices
  • Enhance your knowledge of instructional technology applications that support student learning

Workshop sessions will include a wide variety of practical applications of UD and UDL including:

  • UDL in college dissemination and communication
  • instruction for all
  • technological applications
  • self-advocacy, and
  • specific accommodations that benefit more than just persons with disabilities.

I really hope Rutgers (NJ) holds a similar symposium in the near future. This information is invaluable if post-secondary institutions want to create an atmosphere for life-long learning.
