Tutors,

I hope everyone’s doing well. We have a lot to report this week, so please give this email a good read.

First, this coming Sunday will be another deadline for submitting your hours. Remember to get those hours into PeopleSoft, and all of your sessions are in TutorTrac. Also, bring in your Work Summary Reports if you have them. You should address any irregularities in this process with an email to me. Effective next week, any issues with payroll will require you coming in to talk to me.

Second, here is a quick policy update. When you are working in the Learning Co-op, please write your name on your workspace’s designated whiteboard. This allows front desk staff members and students to find tutors quickly and easily.

Third, here are some statistics. For the month of September 2012 alone (a three week period), subject area tutors recorded 158 different students with 316 tutoring sessions. Our total sessions exceeds numbers from the last few years. Great job to all of you busy tutors; you’ve all worked hard to help a lot of your peers. Give yourself a pat on the back.

Fourth, a private tutoring opportunity has come up for CHEM 031. For someone who wants to work with a student regularly to assist with CHEM 031, get in touch with me.

Next, an update on outstanding tutor requests. These are courses for which we do not have any/enough current tutors listed:
BIOL 001, CDAE 002, BIOL 003, SPAN 001-109, CHEM 121, EC 060, NR 104, MATH 173, CS 031
If you can work with any of these courses, do let me know.

Finally, as we approach the end of the semester, please notify me if you will be graduating. It’s never too early to start talking about planning for next semester. Giving me the notice allows me to recruit tutors for any courses you tutor. This helps me, students, and other tutors. So, let me know!

And one last note: I hope everyone has an amazing, overwhelmingly fantastic Halloween. Feel free to tutor in costumes. Be smart, safe, and a have a blast!

Thanks,
Keith

Tutors,

I hope everyone is having a great week. I know it’s getting crazy around here with exams and everything else. It’s pretty hard to believe that a month of the semester has already flown by.

Advice for the day: if your schedule is getting crazy, and you’re getting too many requests for tutoring, group them up! You can meet with two or more students for the same course at the same time. This allows you to help more students without committing any more of your time. If anyone has questions about how to do this, or needs help making arrangements, let me know.

Courses in need of tutors: PBIO 185, CDAE 061, BSAD 132, BIOC 205
Let me know if you might be able to tutor any of these courses.

Remember: the Tutor Blog (http://blog.uvm.edu/subtutor/) has a variety of resources for tutors, including attendance sign in sheets for group sessions, the hour submission deadlines, as well as instructions for using PeopleSoft or TutorTrac. Be sure to look there if you need anything.

Thanks,
Keith

I hope everyone is well, and I hope everyone is having success in both your classes as well as your tutoring. I have one important reminder this week:

COMMUNICATE PROMPTLY AND CLEARLY. We have had some complaints about tutors not responding to emails, or taking many days to do so. My expectation is that you respond to an email, whether from me or from a student, within 24 hours. If you are having trouble keeping up with communication because of your schedule, please talk about it with me.

Courses in need of tutors: GEOG 040, PBIO 185, CDAE 061, ASTR 005, BCOR 102. Get in touch with me if you can tutor any of these courses.

There are still openings in the tutor schedule here in the Co-op. If anyone would like to be considered for Co-op hours, please come in to talk to me about it, or send me an email.

For Chinese tutors: we have a private tutor request from the parent of an international exchange high school student. If you have interest in tutoring a high school student in Chinese, contact me for the details.

Best of luck on that first round of exams.

Thanks,
Keith

Happy Last Day of Classes!

Hello, Tutors–

A few last minute reminders as the semester comes to a close.

TODAY is the last day of tutoring.  You may not schedule any tutoring appointments through the Learning Co-op after today.

The next deadline for payroll approval is Sunday, May 13.  Please be sure to have all of your hours for the semester entered by this date.  Paychecks will be issued Friday May 4 and Friday May 18.  Please make sure to pick up your paychecks before leaving campus.  If you will have left campus before the last check is issued, please let me know and we can work out a way for it to be mailed to you.

If you’ll be a round for the summer and would like to do some tutoring, let me know.  We post our list of summer tutors on the Learning Co-op website.  Students will contact you directly to set-up private tutoring: you set your own hours and rate of pay.

We are celebrating all of your hard work tomorrow from 2:00-4:00 pm in the L/L Fireplace Lounge.  There is free food, games, healing touch, and special recognition for seniors.  Please RSVP so we can be prepared and stop in tomorrow.  We want to see you and say goodbye before you leave for the summer!

Please complete the SI and Subject-Area Tutoring Program evaluations.  Your feedback will be hugely important as we plan for next Fall.

The Final Countdown

Hello, Tutors–

I’m sure I don’t need to remind you that there is only about a week and a half left of classes this semester.  I may have to remind you, however, that the LAST DAY of TUTORING is WEDNESDAY, MAY 2.  No tutoring appointments may be scheduled after May 2.

The final payroll submission deadline for this semester is SUNDAY, APRIL 29.  You will receive your last paycheck on Friday, May 4.  (If you work hours the week of April 30-May 4, your final paycheck will be issued on Friday, May 18.  It can be mailed to you if you will already be gone for the summer, just let us know where it needs to go.)

As a thank-you for all of the amazing work you have done this semester, the Learning Co-op and Academic Support Programs is hosting a student staff-appreciation event just for you on Thursday, May 3 from 2:00-4:00 pm in the Fireplace Lounge in L/L!  Please RSVP online.

SI Leaders and Drop-In tutors interested in holding final exam reviews after May 2, please let me know no later than Wednesday, April 25 what date and time you would like to hold sessions.  Our final exam review session schedule must be completed by May 1.  Thanks!

As one last reminder, if you tutor in the Co-op, please be mindful of where our furniture is located to be accessible to all students who use our space and please do not move chairs between cubicles.

Best,
Rachel
