Tutor Updates

Tutors,

I know those exams have started for many of you out there, so I hope everyone is managing well. We just got a first order of fresh Vermont apples here in the Learning Co-op; feel free to stop by and grab one.

We’ve been seeing a lot of students coming in to request tutors this week. Remember everyone: let me know if your schedule is full. We don’t want to refer students to you, if you’re just going to tell them you’re busy! It’s best for everyone if you tell me earlier rather than later.

I only have two big points for you this week:

First, I received an email with an opportunity for you all looking for another job. An organization called ‘Let’s Get Ready’ has opened a site at South Burlington High School, where high schoolers prepare for the SATs. They are looking for, “responsible, competent college students”. The schedules are steady, and the work is pretty in-line with what you all do as tutors. You can find more information here: http://letsgetready.org/GetStarted/Coaches-and-Site-Directors/

Second, we have a number of courses for which we are looking for tutors. If you, or someone you knows can work with any of these, let me know!

Week Three Announcements and Updates

Hello Folks–

Week three has come and gone!  This semester seems to be flying by already.  Four things:

1.  If you are interested in connecting with students on campus, consider joining the Cultural Cats.  This program matches native English speakers with International students and English language learners on campus for multilingual conversational practice.  More information is available online, and on the poster below.

2. The current pay period will close this Sunday at midnight.  Please be sure to enter your session records in TutorTrac and your hours in PeopleSoft before this deadline.

4. Finally, we have a growing number of tutor requests this semester.  There are currently no tutors on staff for the courses listed below.  If you would like to tutor one of these courses, please let me know as soon as possible so that I can match you with a student desperately seeking your assistance.

Study Blue

Hey All–

I know it is summer and you are probably staying as far away from studying as you possibly can, but in case you are still hitting the books, you should try checking out this website: http://www.studyblue.com/  Study Blue allows you to create a free account, then create online flashcards, upload your notes, and share with other students in your class.  Since you organize notes by your school and the class name, anyone else at UVM enrolled in the same class will be able to view and use your study materials.  Which means you can use their flashcards to study, too.  It is a great way to form “study groups” you can participate in at 3:30 in the morning or to share and compare notes for class.  I type faster than I print, so it was a quick way to make 200+ vocab flashcards to study for the GRE.  And, the site will create quizzes for you to take when it’s time to study.  Check it out!

Hope you’re having amazing summers!  I must admit, the Learning Co-op is awfully quiet without you all around…

Best,

Rachel

Webspiration Online Paper Planning

Hey Hey Hey–

It’s that time of year when you’ll have lots of tests to take and papers to write.  The website “Webspiration” (http://www.mywebspiration.com/) is a great resource for brainstorming, outlining, and researching papers.  You can upload or insert citations from programs like EndNote and transform a full color web into an orderly outline with just the click of a button.  It’s great for visual learners and anyone working on a long-term project.

Happy writing!
