Gendered Mobilities

In this project I sought to examine the transportation behaviors and attitudes of several sub-groups within the refugee population in Vermont.  In particular, I tried  to understand the impacts of transportation limitations, barriers, and opportunities on the resettlement and acculturation experiences of women, children, and the elderly with in the various refugee communities within Vermont (with a specific focus on refugees who have arrived since 2001, primarily from Africa and Asia).  As well, a key objective of this project was to examine in greater detail the culture of travel amongst refugee communities in Vermont and whether transportation hierarchies are linked to the expectations and experiences of acculturation and resettlement.  This study was conducted between 2010-2012 and the results can be found here:
