Upcoming publication: Eldercare Performed By Shanghai Seniors

A new ethnographic research article illustrating some of the many ways in which Chinese seniors themselves are important contributors of caregiving for the elderly is currently in press in the journal Aging International.  Entitled “Ethnography of Eldercare by Elders in Shanghai, China,” the article was co-authored by Professor Jeanne Shea of the Department of Anthropology at the University of Vermont and her collaborator Yan Zhang of Case Western Reserve University.  Countering notions of aging populations as overwhelmingly dependent, the article is based on mixed methods research conducted by the authors between 2010 and 2014 in a residential area of Shanghai, a city on the forefront of population aging in China.  The article will be posted at the journal’s website at http://link.springer.com/journal/12126.
