Installing Windows 10 on Mac Using Boot Camp

Boot Camp is an Apple software that allows users to run Windows on Mac OS machines. This process is relatively straight forward thanks to the Boot Camp Assistant. Users must have a Intel-based mac and have certain specifications found on Apple’s website  at the bottom of the page.

You will need a USB stick that has no important data on it, as all data on the drive will be deleted during formatting.

  1. Make sure that the Apple OS is up to date, and that Boot Camp Assistant is up to date. This can be done by clicking about this mac after clicking the apple in the upper left corner of the screen. The Mac should be OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.5 or Newer.
  2. Download Windows 10 ISO from Window’s website.
  3. Open Boot Camp Assistant by clicking the search tool (magnifying glass) in the top right of the screen and searching “Boot Camp Assistant”.Screen Shot 2016-06-29 at 11.52.56 AM
  4. The application should appear, click continue and when the select task page appears, move on.
  5. Make sure a USB drive is plugged in and all of the boxes are checked and click continue, it will warn that all data on the USB will be lost, click continue again.

  7. Then pick the amount of hard disk space to give the windows partition by dragging the bar that separates the two boxes and clicking continue.Screen Shot 2016-06-29 at 12.32.05 PM
  8. The machine will now restart and go to the Windows 10 set up page. Follow the install guide by picking a language, accepting the license agreement, and then entering a product key. When the partition page appears, go to the next step.
  9. Format the drive called BOOTCAMP by clicking on the drive until it is highlighted blue and then clicking format below it. Click OK when the setup page says that there will be data loss.IMG_1501
  10. The installer will then install Windows 10. Once it is done it will go to the sign in page. When you have completed these install steps, the installer will go to the Windows desktop and will open the Boot Camp installer. Click install and restart, then the install is done.windows1
