Duo Mobile: Login to UVM Services

What is MFA?

Multi-factor authentication is a paradigm that requires two separate pieces of information (“factors”) in order to verify a user’s identity. A factor is information that a user knows (password, PIN, etc.), has (id card, smart card, etc.), or is (aka “biometrics” i.e. fingerprint, hand scan, etc). Requiring an additional factor presents an additional challenge to a malicious user.

What is Duo Security?

Duo Security is a third-party service that the University of Vermont has contracted in order to provide multi-factor services to the campus. Duo Security enables UVM affiliates to integrate mobile phones, mobile devices, landlines, and other technologies as additional authentication factors.

Login to UVM Services with Duo mobile

  1. NOTE: If you have not already enrolled your smart phone for use with Duo, please see this guide first.
  2. Open a web browser and navigate to a UVM web services which is protected with Duo multi factor authentication. In this example, we’ll be logging into PeopleSoft.
  3. Enter your UVM NetID and password as you normally would when accessing other UVM web services.
  4. Upon entering your credentials successfully, you will be prompted with a “Multi-Factor Duo Security Required” screen. Clicking the “Push” button will send a no-cost notification to your phone’s Duo Mobile app. (NOTE: Text and Call options are available but may incur charges to your mobile plan and/or the University)
  5. Open the Duo mobile app on your phone, and tap the “Request Waiting.Tap to respond…” notification.
  6. Approve the login by taping the “Approve” button.
  7. That’s it, you should now be logged in!


  • If you do not receive a push notification from Duo, check to make sure your phone has a good wifi signal and is connected to the UVM wireless network.
  • If you do not Approve the Duo push notification within 20 seconds, it will expire. If this happens, please login to re-authenticate to the page and try again.
