Downloading WinSCP and Accessing your UVM Zoo Files: Windows

This article provides instructions on how to download and install WinSCP, and how to use this to access your UVM Zoo files and folders.

Step 1: Open a web browser and go to

Step 2: You will be asked to login using your NetID and password (same username and password that you use to log in to your UVM email).

Step 3: After logging in, you will need to select “Microsoft Windows” as your platform.

Step 4: Scroll down to WinSCP and click on the “Download WinSCP now” button.

Step 5: You should see the download pop up in the bottom left part of the screen after a few seconds. Click on this to begin the download. If you do not see the download after a few moments, you will need to click on the link provided on the page.

Step 6: You will be asked to if you want to allow WinSCP to make changes to your computer. Select “Yes”. You will then be asked if you want to proceed with the install. Select “Yes” again.

Step 7: The installation wizard will pop up, showing the progress of the download. Once the installation is complete, it will close. You can open the application by typing WinSCP in the search bar at the bottom left corner of the screen.

Step 8: Once the program opens, hit the “Login” button.

Step 9: The first time you connect a warning box will appear, similar to the one below. Verify that the server’s key fingerprint is:

Then click “Yes”‘.

Step 10: Enter your UVM NetId and then click “OK”.

Step 11: Enter your UVM NetID password. Then click “OK”.

Step 12: Once you are logged in, a box similar to the one below should appear. The left column is the files and folders that are on your computer. The right column is your UVM Zoo files.

You can click and drag your files or folders to your desired destination. Use the drop down menu or folder buttons at the top to navigate to different folders to locate the files you want to copy to your space on the zoo server, or vice versa. Once the transfer is complete, you may close WinSCP.
