Downloading and Installing Cisco SSL VPN Any Connect client: Windows

This article explains step-by-step how to download and install Cisco VPN using a Windows computer.

VPN is useful because it provides a secure connection back to campus from anywhere as long as you have internet access. It will also allow you to appear as if on campus to access services normally blocked by our border firewall.

Step 1: After connecting to an internet connection, open your preferred web browser and enter https://sslvpn.uvm.edu

Step 2: You will be prompted to enter login information. This will be your UVM NetID and password (same credentials used for MyUVM).

Step 3: You will then need to accept the terms, which you can do by hitting the ‘continue’ button of the window that pops up.

Step 4: Next you will need to install the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. You can do this by clicking the ‘Windows Desktop’ link.

Step 5: Next click on the extension that pops up in the bottom left of the page.

** If you have a previous version of the program installed, you will need to uninstall it. You can do this by going to Control Panel -> Programs: Uninstall a Program -> Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client -> Uninstall

Step 6: You will now be brought to the setup wizard. Hit the ‘Next’ button.

Step 7:┬áMake sure ‘I accept the terms in the License Agreement’ is selected. Then, hit the ‘Next’ button.

Step 8: Hit the ‘Install’ button to begin the Installation.

*A window will pop up asking if you want this application to be allowed to make changes to your computer. Select ‘Yes’.

Step 9: After the installation is completed, hit the ‘Finish’ button.

Step 10: You should now to able to launch ‘Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client’. You can do so by┬ásearching for the application on the search bar on the bottom left of the screen, and then selecting ‘Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client’.

Step 11: After clicking on the application, a box will appear in the bottom right corner that will allow you to connect to the VPN. Select the ‘Connect’ button.

Step 12: You will be prompted to enter your NetID and password again, these are the same credentials that were entered before. Select the ‘OK’ button.

Step 13: A box similar to the one below will appear. Select ‘Accept’.

You are now successfully connected to the VPN!
