Connecting to the “Shared” folder: Windows

Connection to the Shared folder: Microsoft Windows

This article provides step-by-step instructions on how to connect to the shared drive (Active Directory Campus domain) using a Windows computer.

If you are Off Campus, you will first need to download and install VPN. If you would like help installing the VPN, please refer to our article “Downloading and Installing Cisco SSL VPN Any Connect Client: Windows”.

If you are On Campus, you are all set to begin.

Step 1: Make sure you have a working internet connection, then search for ‘File Explorer’ in the Windows search bar on the bottom left corner of the screen.

Step 2: Once File Explorer is open, enter the following: \\\shared\[folder name]

*The folder name is the name of the shared folder that you want access to.

For example, I am trying to access the “ets” folder, so I have “ets” at the end of the path.

Step 3: After you have the path written, hit the enter key. A log in box will appear, however it will take a few moments.

**The log in box will not appear if you are logged in to a campus-domain joined computer.

The credentials must be entered in a specific format in order for it to work.

Username: campus/netid

Once you have entered your credentials, hit the ‘OK’ button.

Step 4: A new window similar to the one below should appear. This is the shared folder. You will only see folders you have permission to access.  You should be able to open or view the contents of any folders that you have been assigned access to.
