Microsoft and other providers have published add-ins that provide additional functionality within Outlook and Outlook for web. We have enabled two add-ins which you may find useful, the Message Header Analyzer and the Unsubscribe Add-on.
To make them available in your Outlook (Win/Mac/Web), you need to log into mail.uvm.edu and go the Manage add-ons option on the Options (gear) menu:
Click the check-box in the Turned on column to make one or both add-ins available in Outlook:
Once this step is complete, the add-ins you have turned on should appear in the message window in your Outlook mail clients for Windows, Mac, and the web. It may take a little while (or maybe a restart of Outlook) before they appear in the Windows and Mac versions.

The Message Header Analyzer provides a convenient way to view detailed information (metadata) about an email message, including the message routing information.

The Unsubscribe add-in appears when viewing bulk marketing messages, and depending on the content of the message, may unsubscribe your address from the a marketing list or may suggest simply blocking mail from that sender.

UPDATE! All UVM email accounts have been migrated to Microsoft Exchange, and so this guide is no longer necessary. Outlook 2013 and 2016 setup is very easy, and all functionality is available.

Changes in Outlook 2013
The most significant change in the new version of Outlook is the support of touch-based interfaces. In Outlook 2010, using your finger to scroll a message resulted in selecting a swath of text, as though clicking and dragging with a mouse. Outlook 2013 addresses this, and adds specific support for touch interaction with adjusted menu spacing and a thumb-based button bar that works really well on Windows tablets.

You’ll also notice a much cleaner design, where the faux 3D buttons and look have been simplified and flattened. I find myself selecting the dark gray
color scheme to restore some visual variety and separation, though.
One change that’s a little irritating is that you can no longer specify the folder into which copies of your sent messages are received; they go into a folder called Sent Items
. Instead, I’ve configured Pine, Webmail, and Thunderbird to use Sent Items

Long ago, UVM’s Chief of SkunkWorks, Wesley Wright, put together a script to pull information out of our Oracle Calendar server. It can be used to display calendar data on a web page, but it also can be used to view (read-only) calendar information from applications that understand iCalendar. Wes wrote some instructions on importing calendar events into an iPod, and the script-invoking URL at the end actually works with Outlook 2007:
If you are an Oracle Calendar user, you can import your own calendar, provided that you have not restricted read access to your agenda. The URL for use with iCal Subscribe or for manual downloading is
replace surname with your Oracle Calendar surname (last name) and givenname with your Oracle Calendar given name (first name) . Example
To add Oracle calendar to Outlook 2007, open the Account Settings dialog and click the Internet Calendars tab. Click the New… button, and type in the script URL above, providing your own given and surnames.
Today, I had a request for some help configuring Outlook 2003 to work with UVM’s IMAP services. Before I started using WordPress for my website, I had written an “unofficial guide” on this exact topic, which I have now pulled back online. We’re going to walk through the steps required to configure Outlook 2007 as an email client of the University’s central mail services. Microsoft has improved the IMAP support in Outlook with this latest version, and the configuration is more straight-forward.

When we first start Outlook 2007, the Account Configuration wizard will start. “Yes” is selected by default (we do want to configure our email account, don’t we?), so we’ll click next.
