Medicat migration successful

Last night, I replaced the existing server (now four-and-a-half years old) with a new system. This migration went very smoothly, and no intervention was required on client systems.
The process involved getting the new server up and running, with periodic restores of database backups from production. At the time of cut-over, I disconnected any active users. the put the database in restricted mode. I performed a complete back-up, then copied the data and ancillary files to the new server.
The backup was restored to the new server, and a few things were twiddled (fixing user permissions), and a data update from our student info system was applied. I shut down the old server, changed the IP address of the new to the old, then renamed the new to the old. One reboot, and the system was up and functional.
