The environmental challenges of our (so-called) Anthropocene era are not readily soluble through technological fixes. They require resources of imagination, communication, and passion. Arts, media, and the humanities play a vital role in this. The EcoCulture Lab is an envisioned space, virtual and real, for developing, promoting, and critically analyzing forms of artistic and media expression that could contribute to a socially and ecologically sustainable future. The Lab is sponsored by the University of Vermont’s Steven Rubenstein Professorship for Environment and Natural Resources, currently held by Environmental Studies professor Adrian Ivakhiv, but it is envisioned as a UVM-wide initiative encompassing multiple efforts in collaboration with larger scholarly, artistic, and advocacy communities.
