Today’s Activities:

  • Backups:
    • A PS client fails.
    • FSGen3 clones completed at 01:23
    • Another client failed – certificate changed.
    • Tape Vaulting – forty (40) went.
    • Loaded and Labeled forty (40) tapes.
    • Defined two new clients.
    • Examining tape assignments – discovered the online pool has stolen
      over 200 of the vault tapes – adding tapes to compensate (and get
      the vault tapes back.
  • LDAP/Accounts:
    • Cleaning up the first wave of failures from rottweiler move.
      That forced_command issue with sshd vs authorized_keys was a PITA!
    • Two (2) issues in need of human intervention. Resolved.
    • Adjusting self-entered fields as that function is broken.

Today’s Activities:

  • Backups:
    • A client system was rebuilt yesterday – nsrauth hates that.
      After the admin installed NetWorker client,
      turned off oldauth.
    • Tape Vaulting: forty (40) tapes went.
    • Loaded and labeled forty (40) tapes for Scratch pool.
    • Removed disk drives from last NexSan array.
  • LDAP/Accounts:
    • New SOR – nobody agrees about what we agreed about.
    • CatCard feed change pushed to production.
    • One entry needs human intervention – found, fixed.
  • General:
    • Replacement of rottweiler – Success!!

Today’s Activities:

  • Backups:
    • Released seventy-five (75) tapes that were held for audit.
    • Updated a client’s save sets per owner request.
    • Reclaimed twenty-four (24) (of the above 75) tapes for the vaults.
  • LDAP/Accounts:
    • No issues needing human intervention.
    • Hopefully final testing of RHEL5 account mgmt system replacement.
    • Blowing up groups per request.

Today’s Activities:

  • Backups:
    • Tape Vaulting – forty (40) went.
    • Loaded and labeled forty (40) tapes for the Scratch pool.
    • Reclaimed two (2) tapes for the vaults.
    • Started up TAPE, DISK, FSGen3 clones.
    • TAPE clones completed at 11:52.
    • Generated a new vault tape list.
  • LDAP/Accounts:
    • One (1) issue needs human intervention – fixed.
    • Updated an entry per IAM request.
    • Provide samples of updated feed to CatCard.

Today’s Activities:

  • Backups:
    • Reclaimed five (5) tapes for the vaults.
    • Drive *9ce92 claimed 131144L4 has “Memory chip in cartridge failure”
      on 1/27/2018 at 09:38:35 and 09:39:08.
      Drive lies. NetWorker had trouble relabeling that tape on
      January 7 (in this same drive) and I had not caught the attempted
      uses (1525 !!!) until now.
      Deleted the tape from media database, labeled just fine.
    • Terminated the Windows full that was hung up on a development
      machine that has a lot of disks.
  • LDAP/Accounts:
    • No issues requiring human intervention.
    • Assisting IAM with a former student that has trouble
      communicating what they really need and required multiple
      LDAP entry updates.
    • Research Associate objectClass work.

    • Remove old equipment out of the racks.

    • Two entries needing human intervention – fixed.
    • Working on the catcard feed.

Today’s Activities:

  • Backups:
    • FSGen3 clones completed at 05:45 this morning.
    • Cleaned up certificate issues from client rename yesterday.
    • Defined a new backup client.
    • More BMR work.
  • LDAP/Accounts:
    • Three updates needing the human touch — all resolved.
    • Very invalid SSN delivered from Banner. Seems a human made a mistake.
      Cleaned up the mess inside LDAP.

  • Backups:
    • Tape Vaulting – forty (40) tapes went.
    • Loaded and labeled forty (40) tapes into the Scratch pool.
    • BMR testing – nsrauth fails. adding oldauth makes it work.
  • LDAP/Accounts:
    • Two issues need human intervention.
      One resolved.
      One appears to be an incorrect SSN issue.
      Admissions agrees – fixed.
    • Changing the name on a departmental account.

    • Loaded and labeled forty (40) tapes into the Scratch pool.
    • DISK clones completed at 06:51 this morning.
    • TAPE clones completed at 21:52 last night.
    • Another vendor call
    • COMIS clones completed at 16:56 this afternoon.
  • LDAP/Accounts:
    • One issue needing human intervention.
    • One retiree that was missed in the latest feed, manual update.

Today’s Activities:

  • Backups:
    • Reclaimed eight (8) tapes for the vaults.
    • Repaired retention times of fifty (50) save sets on twenty-six (26) tapes.
    • Backup Maintenance Day.
      • psbackup’s DBA run backup starts at 0445,
        runs until ???, delays maintenance.
        Is single threaded – why not multi-thread it?
      • Actual start time 08:39 (instead of 07:00).
      • DD690 (and old storage node) powered off, cables removed.
      • 8.2.4.11 upgrade processed.
      • Microcode updates applied.
      • reboots all the way round.
    • Clones started.
    • Reconfigure test server for BMR testing.
    • Tape Vaulting – forty (40) tapes went.
    • Loaded and labeled forty (40) tapes into Scratch pool.
  • LDAP/Accounts:
    • Cleaned up five (5) issues that needed human intervention.
    • Cleaned up a rogue attribute per IAM request.
    • Trying to decipher how to deal with VACC pi group members.
