Northern Forest Canoe Trail – Summer Stewardship Positions

Help steward a 740-mile waterway that traverses New York, Vermont, Quebec, New Hampshire, and Maine!

One Stewardship Crew Leader will work with Stewardship Interns to implement projects along the Northern Forest Canoe Trail. The Stewardship Crew Leader will be responsible for overseeing crew operations, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines, and working with crew members and volunteers to complete river access, campsites, and portage trails projects.

Applicants should have prior trail crew experience, competence in both timber and stone construction techniques, strong outdoor skills; experience operating chainsaws and power tools, experience working in a team environment, confidence with flat water paddling, and Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder Certification

Three Stewardship Interns will travel across the Northern Forest, working with community volunteers to complete a variety of campsite, river access, and portage trail development projects along the region’s waterways.

Applicants should be at least 19 years of age, have an enthusiasm for physical work and outdoor living and an interest in obtaining hands-on trail, leadership, and volunteer management skills in preparation for a future career in conservation and related fields.
