POSITION DESCRIPTION
Reports to: Church Street’s Executive Director and Maintenance Director
Mentored by: Terry Krinsky, TK Landscape Design
Pay: $15/hour

General Purpose: This position is responsible for assisting the Church Street Marketplace in the
care and maintenance of the Marketplace’s public trees year-round. In addition, in 2018,
position will help to create and launch a hanging basket program for the Marketplace District
(May – September) for either 2018 or 2019.

Essential Job Functions:
o Gain an understanding of the tasks described in the Church Street Marketplace Tree
Maintenance Manual.
o Perform tasks as shown on the Tree Maintenance Program calendar. Working through CSM
maintenance director, coordinate these tasks as needed with outside contractors (i.e. irrigation
system maintenance)
o Inspect and diagnose insect and disease problems and recommend and apply appropriate
treatments on the District’s trees.
o Update the District’s spreadsheet detailing the condition of every tree, tree grate and tree
guard on Church Street

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:
o Interest in Urban Forestry, Arboriculture or Horticulture
o Basic computer skills in a Windows environment required.
o Ability to effectively express verbally to the public job tasks that are being performed when
asked.
o Internship can be extended based on availability.

About Terry Krinsky:
Terry Krinsky, RLA, ASLA has over forty years of experience as a Landscape Architect. Projects
that Terry has performed for the Church Street Marketplace, often in collaboration with others,
include street lighting, accent lighting, the alley connecting the Marketplace to the parking
garage, the twin stone cairns at the entrance to the alley, the “Everyone Loves a Parade” mural
installation, the Fish Fountain (with Kirk Williams), the fertigation system for the Marketplace
trees, tree replacements, brick paver replacements, the CSM Tree Maintenance Manual, and
the intersections at Pearl Street and Cherry Street. Terry’s designs typically reference regional
design details and materials that work within the context of the Vermont landscape and are
sustainable in our northern climate. Special attention is given to site furnishings that contribute
to a pedestrian friendly streetscape and memorable experiences for visitors. Designs for the
Church Street Marketplace are intended to reinforce the successful imagery of the
Marketplace. Long term maintenance and budgets are always a design influence.”
About the Church Street Marketplace District:
Historic, award-winning Church Street Marketplace is nestled in the heart of downtown
Burlington, Vermont. Built in 1981, Church Street Marketplace is a business improvement
district and is managed by the Marketplace Department, a department of the City of
Burlington. The Marketplace District is extensively programmed and managed to be a lively
place throughout the year. Restaurants, street vendors, and more than 100 retail shops lend
Vermont’s favorite pedestrian mall a distinctive flair — part rural spice, part urban utopia.
