Finding Therapists

Posted: August 8th, 2011 by David Rettew

Psychotherapy and counseling is a very important aspect of care.  There is ample evidence that psychotherapy, in particular cognitive-behavioral therapy, is as effective if not more effective than medications for many types of emotional behavioral problems. Finding a good therapist, however, can be very much a challenge.  The following links can help.

  • Listing of Vermont mental health professionals at Practioner to Practioner Help.  This listing that allows one to match particular patients with specific therapists based on location, expertise, and other factors.  It is updated by the therapists themselves.
  • Vermont 211 is on online database maintained by the United Way that connects people to many different types of community and social service resources including mentoring and parenting programs, support groups, employment and housing services, and transportation assistance
