Our research focuses on the dynamics of runoff and sediment production in steep, mountain landscapes.  We combine empirical field studies with simulation modeling to understand the roles of climate forcings and human-induced landuse/landcover change in controlling and altering watershed processes.

We are particularly interested in how land management, including transportation networks, recreational development, hydropower projects, and forest harvesting, effects runoff and water quality in mountain settings.

Our research sites include watersheds in the NSF-supported Long-term Ecological Research Network, a paired watershed site on the eastern slopes of Mt. Mansfield, Vermont, and a newly established site in the tropical Andes of southern Ecuador.
